SCORE releases report on teacher evaluations

The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) released its report, Supporting Effective Instruction in Tennessee, on Tennessee’s teacher evaluation system. The report was commissioned by Gov. Bill Haslam  at the end of 2011. SCORE's study included nine roundtable events across the state and an online survey to gather feedback from educators on their concerns with the new evaluation system implemented in the 2011-12 school year.

TEA honors outstanding teachers, supporters of public education

The Tennessee Education Association presented awards to Tennessee educators and supporters of public education at TEA’s Annual Awards Luncheon this month.

TEA recognized the 2011-12 Distinguished Classroom Teachers. This year’s winners are Mary Brockett (Knox County), Beth Brown (Grundy County), Debbie D’Angelo (Henry County), Nellie Anne Keeton (Tipton County), Allen Nichols (Rutherford County) and Elaine Weaver (Franklin County).                               

Elections of TEA Officers Top the RA Agenda

Hundreds of delegates from local affiliates across Tennessee and student chapters on college campuses are expected to attend the annual business meeting of the Tennessee Education Association set for May 11-12 at the Nashville Convention Center.  

Elections of TEA President, Vice President and NEA Director for Tennessee top the agenda of the TEA Representative Assembly.  Elections will also be held for eight seats on the TEA Board of Directors and several other offices. 

TCRS retired teachers, state employees to receive max. allowable cost of living adjustment


The Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System Board of Trustees announced at its March 30, 2012 meeting that retirees who have been on the TCRS retired payroll for a least 12 consecutive months as of July 1, 2012 will be receiving a three (3%) percent cost-of-living adjustment.  The percentage of COLA is based on the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for the previous calendar year.

Updated Preferred Drug List

Each quarter the Preferred Drug List (PDL) is updated and posted online. For the second quarter of 2012, a large number of medications will be added to the list (largely generic products) and only one drug will be removed from the PDL effective April 1, 2012.
