TEA President Beth Brown and Knox County Education Association President and TEA Vice President Tanya Coats issued the following statement:
“We are heartbroken for the students, families and educators of the Austin-East community who are dealing with unimaginable tragedy this week. Educators statewide are mourning the loss of a young person and the trauma experienced by all involved. To the educators at Austin-East, please know that your colleagues all across the state are lifting you up and holding you in our hearts.
TEA and our local associations, including the Knox County Education Association, remain committed to working with state and local leaders to ensure all students have a safe and healthy learning environment. This includes the need for more school counselors and social workers to support students and meet their needs.”
