At its next meeting, the State Board of Education will be considering policy changes regarding students’ plans of study for high school and beyond. In February, TEA convened a focus group of counselors from across the state to engage in dialogue with State Board Staff about what supports students need for post-secondary planning; as a result of that meaningful conversation, several changes to the current policy have been proposed.
The State Board is again seeking input from TEA and our members who serve as school counselors, specifically requesting school counselors review the amended policy language. You'll find the current policy as well as the proposed amendment attached below (policy 2.103 Section IV). Please review this policy language, share it with your school counselor(s), and provide any feedback or suggestions to TEA President Beth Brown (firstname.lastname@example.org) no later than April 21st.
It’s important we continue to lift up the voices of education experts—in this case, our school counselors—to effect needed change at the state level.
