Parliamentary Procedure

Parliamentary Procedure is a plan to preside over all business meetings of your local association using parliamentary procedure.

Parliamentary procedure will allow you to:

  • Enable an assembly to transact business with speed and efficiency.

  • Protect the rights of each participant.

  • Preserve a spirit of harmony and fairness in the group, even when participants disagree on issues.

Principles of Parliamentary Procedure

  • Only one subject may claim the attention of the body at a time.

  • The body should fully and freely consider each issue brought to it.

  • Every participant has equal rights.

  • The will of the majority must be carried out and the rights of the minority must be protected.

  • Each participant must become part of the larger body.
