The TEA, Tennessee’s teachers, congratulates Tennessee for being selected as one of only two states to be awarded Race to the Top funds by the federal government. Only Tennessee and Delaware were selected in the first round of recipients, with Tennessee receiving $500 million.

TEA President Earl Wiman said, “It is important that decisions being made for our state and public schools are made by residents and practitioners in Tennessee, and not by those from outside of the state. While winning this competition is something of which we should be proud, there is much work to be done to accomplish the plans that were created in January.”
